ClearBlue Ionizer Mineral Action / Ionizing Light is Flashing Red

The flashing red light normally means it’s time to change the mineral cell.

In USA: You can purchase a replacement cell on thinkminerals.com

In Canada: you can purchase a replacement cell on Amazon

If your ClearBlue system has the blue number screen, the Mineral Action (Ionizing) light should be on solid blue when it is set to Maintain (Ion/Action) and everything is working properly. If the Mineral Action (Ionizing) light was blue, but now it is flashing red, this normally means that it is time to replace the mineral cell. Check the two electrode bars on the cell, and if they are shorter than 1/2″ or 10mm, it is time to replace them.

A flashing red Mineral Action (Ionizing) light could also mean:

  • The cell plug (pink, blue, or black plug) is not completely plugged into the controller. WARNING: Unplug the power to the controller or turn off the breaker to the spa before adjusting the cell plug
  • The two electrode bars on the cell are not completely under water
  • One or both of the electrode bars are scaled up enough to prevent an electric current from transmitting. Power down the controller, remove the cell, and scrape off the scale with a metal file. Once cleaned, replace the cell and power up the controller
  • On hot tubs: The Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) is too low. If there is still material on the electrodes and you are getting a flashing red Mineral Action (Ionizing) light, usually after a refill, then low TDS could be the problem. To confirm, set the controller to Increase (Large Dose) (or press the topside button if you have one). If the Mineral Action (Ionizing) light (or topside light) starts flashing blue, then it’s working on Increase (Large Dose) but not on Maintain (Ion/Action) mode. You will need to increase the TDS. Set the controller to Maintain (Ion/Action) mode. With the jets running, add 1/4 cup of any kind of salt to the water every 10 minutes until the Mineral Action (Ionizing) light comes on blue.
